Apple Event September 2020

Apple held its annual autumn event at 10 am on 15 September 2020 with its new products and services. Surprisingly, there is no iPhone 12 in this event, but the new Apple Watch and iPad still have some new dazzling features. The enhanced Always-on Retina display is 2.5 times brighter for better outdoor visibility. The Series 6 is also powered by a new S6 chip, which Apple says is based on the A13 Bionic from iPhone 11, and can be 20% faster than the Series 5. Apple Watch Series 6 adds new colors and bands including new seamless band Solo Loop that is more lightweight and easy to slip on and off. The Apple Watch Series 6 starts at 399ドル and is available now to purchase.

Apple Watch SE

Apple Watch SE

It has many features as in the Series 6, including fall detection, always-on altimeter and built-in accelerometer, but it is powered by the duel-core S5 chip which was used in Series 5. Watch SE has the same large Retina display as Series 6 so you can see more at a glance. Apple announced new Family Setup feature for families to add and manage multiple Apple Watches in the family group from a single iPhone. This feature helps to share and track contacts and locations from other family members. It is better for parents to buy Watch SE for their kids as they can schedule Schooltime mode to limit certain features for their kids to stay focused.

Apple iPad Air

Apple iPad Air

The new iPad was another main focus of the event. This new iPad Air features all-screen like the iPad Pro and comes with multiple color selections. It removes the home button and puts Touch ID in the top button. Similar to iPad Pro 11, the new iPad Air has a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display, and also has USB Type C and four speakers. Highlights of Apple’s WWDC 2019: New iPadOS, iOS 13 Dark Mode and More

With a preview of the Apple’s self-made show "For All Mankind", Apple started its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Jose on Monday. This time Apple really makes a great change on every aspect.

iPadOS is Born

Apple always wants iPad to be more creative and productive since its release of iPad Pro on 2015, and all the feature updates are aiming this goal. However, ipad Pro still has many restrictions on multitasking, file management and interaction. So this time Apple brings a new iPadOS on iPad to completely separate from iOS on the iPhone.

[画像:iPad OS features a new home screen]
iPad OS features a new home screen

The iPadOS is quite different from iOS in the home screen. To take advantage of the large display, iPad supports multiple windows and files from the same app simultaneously with updates to Split View. The File app in iPadOS supports USB drives, SD cards and SMB file server. Safari in iPadOS is also more powerful than ever. It supports download manager and the browser has desktop version which is for better visual experience. You can also download custom fonts in the App Store.

With the support of the new API, the Apple Pencil latency shortens from 20ms to 9ms. And it supports new mark features on iPadOS.

iOS 13 with Dark Mode

One of the keywords for iOS 13 is speed. The Face ID unlock is 30% faster than before. With a new way to package iPhone apps, the app updates is 60% smaller, resulting in faster load time and app launch. The other big update is the Dark Mode that protects our eyes while playing iPhone in dark and saves battery at the same time. With AirPods and HomePod, Siri can read incoming messages and recognize voice by Voice Control to reply the message. Several applications have rich updates, including Reminders, CarPlay, Location Services and so on, and now you can share a song or a movie with your friend by simply bringing two iPhones close. Privacy-protecting features like "Sign in with Apple" are not only safer but also prevent users from being tracked.

Mac Pro or Cheese Grater?

The new Mac Pro is the only hardware on this WWDC, and this is another high end device for professionals after iMac Pro although it changes its look from a trash can to a cheese grater this time. The new Mac Pro features workstation-class Xeon processors up to 28 cores, a memory system with a 1.5 TB capacity, 8 PCI-E expansion slots and 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports. There are two options of Mac Pro graphics: Randeon Pro Vega II and Randeon Pro Vega II Duo. Mac Pro also features an Accelerator Card – Apple Afterburner which can play three streams of 8K ProRes Raw videos at the same time.

The Mac Pro is made by the stainless-steel space frame with two handles so users can move it easily around the studio.

watchOS 6 Has Its Own App Store

The new watchOS 6 finally adds the App Store to the Apple Watch this time, now you can download the applications on the watch directly instead of transferring them from iPhone. As usual, several new watch faces are coming out along with the watchOS 6 with different customized design. And the new watchbands are on sell now on the App Store including the new band Pride Edition Sport Loop. Some new applications are also available on the watchOS 6 including Voice Memos, Calculator app, and other health and fitness tools. Among them, the Trends app can track your metrics within last 90 days with up or down marks to help users know their state of health.

macOS 10.15: No More iTunes

The new macOS 10.15 Catalina has replaced iTunes with standalone versions of Apple Music, Podcasts and the Apple TV app. Some apps which can be used on only iOS like Screen Time are now available on macOS as well. When users connect their iOS device to the Mac, it will show up in the sidebar of Finder. Another new feature is related to iPad. Users can use iPad as a second display for the Mac and use Apple Pencil to draw or sketch on iPad. macOS Catalina also supports Voice Control which allows users who cannot operate traditional input devices to control their Mac by their voice. The voice data will be saved in local instead of iCloud.

Last but not least, Apple has made a new update to port iOS applications to Mac called Project Catalyst. From now on the developers can use Xcode tools to make transfer more convenient. Apple has made an example with Twitter to show how fast it can be ported from iOS to macOS.

Apple Watch Series 4 Review – The Best Apple Watch Ever

Apple releases the new iPhones and new Apple Series 4 in the September Launch Event. Although there is not too much surprise in the iPhones, the new Apple Watch really impressed us. Now let’s take a deep look into this new model with fully redesign.

Apple Watch Series 4

Design

The two sizes of the Apple Watch Series 4 are 40mm and 44mm. The bigger one is slightly larger than the Series 3 with 42mm size, but the redesigned screen seems much bigger. The new screen is much closer to the edge, and the four corners are more round-shaped than the before. And the Series 4 is subtly thinner than Series 3 as well. On Series 3 the digital crown features a red dot which looks a bit awkward, so it’s really happy to see this dot is replaced by a red ring that matches better with the overall design. All these new changes together make the Series 4 more good looking and portable to wear.

Feature

The most impressive watch face in Series 4 should be "infograph" which you can customize different in it as you like. However, the screen seems full of different colors and that may not be easily to get used to, but I think the reason why Apple uses different colors is to help people identify each features in a small screen more easily.

The rear of the Watch takes metal off and uses ceramic instead, which will improve the transmission of wireless signal. To enhance the experience in phone calls, the microphone has been moved away from the speaker, and the speaker is set to a much louder volume so that you don’t need to keep the Watch close to your ear in order to hear clearly.

The Series 4 adds new electrical heart sensor and re-engineered digital crown with haptic feedback. The battery life seems better than Series 3. Apple claims 18 hours of regular use or 6 hours of outdoor workouts.

WatchOS 5

The new watchOS 5 has been improved in many ways. You can simply lift your arm and start talking to Siri instead of saying "Hey Siri" to get feedback. And it separates fitness and health features in the new Watch. On fitness feature, it adds new yoga and hiking workouts, and you can compete with your family or your friends in workout competitions. And if you forget to open the app during workout, it will automatically detect the workout data from beginning and continue to record it when you remember to open the app up during the exercise. On health part, the watchOS 5 can detect low heart rate, and enables fall detection. Once it detects you are falling down and have difficulty getting up, it will call emergency services and your emergency contacts after your permission or you haven’t moved for one minute.

Price

Apple Watch is always pricy. The least expensive model is the one with GPS and WiFi at 399ドル. And the price adds up with a larger screen, LTE compatibility and different bands, not to say the Hermes model.

Although Series 4 is not cheap, it has enhanced in many ways and should be the best Apple Watch ever.

Apple’s iPhone XS, XS Max and XR Launch Event – Sept.12, 2018

Apple September Event

Apple Unveils iPhone XS, XS Max and XR on September Launch Event

On the annual September product event Apple unveiled three newest models including iPhone XS, starting at 999ドル; iPhone XS Max, starting at 1099,ドル and the iPhone XR, starting at 749ドル. The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will start pre-order on Sept. 14 and ship on Sept, 21. The iPhone XR will be available for pre-order on Oct. 19 and will ship on Oct, 26. The new Apple Watch Series 4 starts pre-order on Sept. 21 from 399ドル for the GPS model and 499ドル for the cellular.

iPhone XS

Apple’s senior vice president, Pill Schiller announced at the event that the iPhone XS is water-resistant. It is an updated version of iPhone X with 5.8-inch OLED screen. The iPhone XS provides a new processor with better performance, and improves the display for better color representation. It still uses the newest A12 bionic chip which claimed by Apple to be the first ever 7nm chip and has a six-core CPU (with two "performance" cores and four "efficiency" cores), a four-core GPU (which is up to 50 percent faster than the A11’s), and an updated Neural Engine, a special part of the chip designed to handle AI tasks.

The iPhone XS features an improved dual-camera system compared to former versions. And it still uses FaceID which is supported by a faster front-facing camera and a dot projector. The iPhone XS has three color options with gold, silver and space grey and three storage spaces with 64 GB, 256 GB and the largest 512 GB.

iPhone XS Max

A bigger model of iPhone XS is the iPhone XS Max with a 6.5-inch OLED screen. Both iPhones feature blur adjustment after Portrait photos are taken, and offer dual SIM through the use of a nano-SIM and digital eSIM. The iPhone XS Max runs on the biggest battery Apple has ever put in a phone with 90 minutes longer usage, Schiller said. And the iPhone XS Max’s upgraded speaker system also provides “wider stereo sound”.

iPhone XR

Apple’s third new iPhone is a more affordable option, the iPhone XR. It has 6.1-inch Liquid Retina Display with aluminum finishes. While the iPhone XR also runs on faster processors and uses the similar front-facing sensor array, the rear-facing camera will only include a single 12-megapixel sensor. The battery will last an hour and a half longer than the battery in the iPhone 8 Plus, Schiller said. And it comes in six color options: white, blue, coral, black, yellow, and red.

Apple Watch Series 4

The new Apple Watch features a larger display with smaller bezels. It will provide better fitness tracking and health features, with a dual-core, 64-bit S4 processor, the performance of which is up to two times faster than the former generation. The core applications on the Series 4 have been updated and redesigned for users to customize their own watch face.

The Series 4 comes with advanced heart sensor for taking an electrocardiogram. It can detect the abnormal when users are in dangerous heart condition and alert the emergency contact. The bands from original series are still compatible with the Series 4.

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus

Apple introduced the new iPhone 8/8 Plus with color‐matched, aerospace‐grade aluminum band, which to be water and dust resistant with upgraded displays and studio speakers. The glass back allows the phones to have wireless charging.

The iPhone 8/8 Plus also feature the A11 Bionic processor. Apple says it’s the most powerful chip ever in a smartphone. It’s between 25 percent and 70 percent faster than the chip used in last year’s iPhones.

The iPhone 8/8 Plus have video improvements as well. The devices can capture 4K video at framerate of 60fps. They can also capture slow-motion footage at 1080p and 240fps. New sensors in a dual camera will help these phones take photos and videos with less noise especially in the Plus model. The phones have 3-D touch technology and new stereo speakers that are 25 percent louder.

Apple says the new iPhones are also optimized for augmented reality, or AR, which is software that makes it appear that digital images exist in the user’s real-world environment. Gaming will be a major use case for AR as well.

Apple is using the Qi wireless charging standard for these two iPhones as well. They will be available in 64GB and 256GB configurations starting at 699ドル for the iPhone 8 and 799ドル for the iPhone 8 Plus. Start shipping on September 22.

Apple Watch

The new Apple Watch Series 3 has cellular built in. It’s the size just as slim as the Apple Watch Series 2. You can take the call and converse with just the watch’s built-in micthe and the number is the same number that you use on an iPhone, Apple said.

Apple Watch is the #1 watch brand in the world now, Cook said, with over 50 percent growth compared with the previous year. Jeff Williams, chief operating officer, said Apple is adding new measurements to the heart-rate readings of the Apple Watch, such as recovery heart rate.

The new watch will also allow streaming for millions of songs, as it is more power-efficient and has a dual-core processor and supports speaking from Siri. Orders begin Sept. 15 and it ships on Sept. 22.

The New MacBook Pro with Touch Bar

Introduced on October 27, 2016, the revamped MacBook Pro is the “thinnest and lightest” Pro notebook Apple has ever made. Available in 13 and 15-inch options, the new MacBook Pro is smaller than previous models and it boasts a new “Touch Bar”.

The Touch Bar is a small Retina display panel built into area above the keyboard, where the function keys used to be. The Touch Bar is like a mini computer built right into the MacBook Pro, with contextual buttons and controls that change based on what application you’re using.

In Mail, for example, the Touch Bar has options for sending a reply, deleting a message, composing a new message, and more. In Messages, there are QuickType text predictions and options for choosing emoji, and in Photos, the Touch Bar can be used to scroll through and edit photos. Apple has updated all of its apps to take advantage of the Touch Bar, and third-party apps will also support it with custom functions.

Touch ID, powered by a dedicated T1 processor, is built into the Touch Bar. The T1 processor features a secure enclave, allowing the Touch ID button to be used to unlock the Mac and make purchases with Apple Pay. It also enables fast user switching.

Design wise, both the 13 and 15-inch MacBook Pro models are thinner and lighter than their predecessors, with the 13-inch machine shedding the most bulk. Along with a Touch Bar, there’s also a much larger trackpad and a thinner, brighter display that features 67 percent more contrast and support for wide color gamut.

The MacBook Pro adopts a keyboard that’s similar to the keyboard in the MacBook, with a second-generation butterfly mechanism and wider, flatter keys that are more stable. It also includes speakers with double the dynamic range and improved bass, but it does eliminate all ports with the exception of four USB-C ports and a headphone jack.

Skylake processors, faster SSDs, high-speed memory, Thunderbolt 3 support, AMD graphics (15-inch) and an advanced thermal architecture all help to improve performance in the MacBook Pro.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro features a 2.9 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of memory, Intel Iris Graphics, and 256GB or 512GB of flash storage depending on model. The 15-inch version has a 2.6 GHz or 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of memory, a Radeon Pro 450 or 455, and 256GB or 512GB of flash storage depending on model.

There are also additional upgrade options for improving the CPU, GPU (15-inch only), and storage space.

Pricing on the 13-inch MacBook Pro starts at 1,799ドル for the entry-level machine, while pricing on the 15-inch MacBook Pro starts at 2,399ドル. Both machines are available in Silver or Space Gray.

Apple is also offering an entry-level MacBook Pro that comes with a lower-end processor, lower-end graphics, and no Touch Bar or Touch ID, but it does have a more affordable price point at 1,499ドル.

The new 13 and 15-inch MacBook Pro models are available for pre-order today. Orders for the machines equipped with Touch Bars will begin shipping out to customers in late November, while the 13-inch MacBook Pro without a Touch Bar will be available as soon as October 31.

Apple Seeds Fourth Beta of iOS 10.1 to Developers and Public Beta Testers

Apple seeded the fourth beta of an upcoming iOS 10 update to developers and public beta testers for testing purposes, one week after seeding the third iOS 10.1 beta and more than a month after releasing iOS 10 to the public.

Registered developers can download the new iOS 10.1 beta from the Apple Developer Center or over-the-air once the proper configuration profile is installed. Public beta testers can download the update over-the-air after installing the configuration profile from Apple’s beta testing website.

iOS 10.1 introduces a new “Portrait” mode for the iPhone 7 Plus that allows it to use the two built-in cameras to create shallow depth of field portrait photos with blurred backgrounds.

To achieve the blurred look, the image signal processor in the iPhone 7 Plus uses the wide-angle camera to create a depth map, dissecting the different layers of the photo to decide what to blur. It works on people, pets, and objects, but does require good lighting to achieve the proper effect.

The update also likely includes bug fixes and other under-the-hood improvements to address issues that have been uncovered since iOS 10 was released, such as an ongoing CallKit bug that has caused CallKit to function unreliably.

iOS 10 has been described by Apple as the “biggest release ever” for iOS users, with features that include a redesigned Lock screen, a Siri SDK to allow third-party apps to integrate with Siri, and a completely overhauled Messages app with stickers, a full App Store, Digital Touch, Bubble Effects, and more.

Other features include a dedicated “Home” app for HomeKit users, new facial and object recognition capabilities in Photos, and redesigned Maps and Apple Music apps. For more details on iOS 10, make sure to check out our iOS 10 roundup.

What’s New in macOS Sierra

macOS Sierra, the next-generation Mac operating system, was unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 13, 2016 and launched to the public on September 20, 2016. Apple chose to do away with the OS X name in favor of the new “macOS” name to bring the Mac operating system in line with iOS, watchOS, and tvOS.

The main new feature in macOS Sierra is Siri integration, bringing Apple’s personal assistant to the Mac for the first time. Siri offers many of the same capabilities available on iOS, along with Mac-specific functionality like the ability to search through documents to quickly find files.

There’s also an option to pin Siri search results to the Today section of the Notification Center or to add them to documents to provide up to date information at a glance. Siri can also do things like search through Photos, set reminders, initiate FaceTime calls, and more.

In Photos, computer vision and new deep learning algorithmsallow the app to recognize people, places, and things in images using facial, object, and scene recognition, using the information to group images into intelligent collections and enable powerful search capabilities. A new “Memories” tab creates curated collections of past photos to resurface old memories, and there’s a new “Places” album for displaying all photos on a world map.

Messages has rich links for previewing web content and watching video clips directly within the app, and it supports iOS 10 sister features like bigger emoji and “Tapback” options for quickly responding to messages with icons like a heart or a thumbs up. In iTunes, Apple Music is redesigned with a bolder look and a simpler interface to improve music discovery.

Continuity features are expanding in macOS Sierra with the introduction of a new “Auto Unlock” option for Apple Watch owners. When an authenticated and unlocked Apple Watch is in close proximity to a Mac, it unlocks automatically without the need to enter a password. Also new on the Continuity front is Universal Clipboard, a feature for copying something on one Apple device and pasting it on another.

Deeper iCloud integration makes all of the files stored on the desktop or the documents folder of a Mac available on all of a user’s devices, including other Macs, the iPhone and the iPad through the iCloud Drive app, and the web through iCloud.com.

[画像:macossierrafilesicloud]

All Mac apps, first and third-party, are able to use multiple tabs in macOS Sierra, so in apps like Pages, users work with multiple tabs instead of multiple windows when accessing more than one document.Picture in Picture multitasking is also new in the OS, allowing users to watch a video while doing other things.

Apple is introducing a new Apple File System (APFS) built around SSDs and engineered with native encryption as a primary feature. There’s also a new Optimized Storage feature that frees up space on a Mac when storage is getting low.

Along with iOS 10, macOS Sierra supports Apple Pay in the web browser, letting users pay for purchases made on the web with Apple Pay. Payments are authenticated through a connected iPhone using Touch ID or an unlocked Apple Watch.

Macgo Mac Blu-ray Player is now fully supported on the latest macOS Sierra 10.12.

Best iOS 10, Features to try !

iOS 10 features a redesigned Lock screen experience with 3D Touch-enabled notifications, a more easily accessible camera, and a widgets screen. A revamped Control Center also offers 3D Touch support along with new controls for music and HomeKit devices. Raise to Wake, a new feature for the latest devices, wakes up the iPhone without bypassing notifications.

Messages has been entirely overhauled with new features like background animations, bubble effects, rich links, and Digital Touch, and there’s even a full Messages App Store that can add almost unlimited capabilities to messages, from sending stickers and GIFs to making payments or placing collaborative dinner orders.

A new Siri SDK lets developers build support into their apps, and a dedicated “Home” app gives users a central place to control HomeKit devices. Photos features impressive facial and object recognition capabilities, and a new Memories feature allows you to discover forgotten memories.

Maps and Apple Music have both been redesigned with cleaner, simpler interfaces, with Maps gaining proactive suggestions and integrated third-party apps and Music gaining better content discovery features and a new focus on lyrics.

There’s a new feature that lets stock iOS apps be hidden from sight, and the QuickType keyboard is smarter with new contextual predictions, including emoji predictions. Apple Pay is available on the web starting today.
